To bring women’s views and solutions to the forefront of discussions and decisions on COVID-19 response, UN Women initiated rapid consultations with women’s organizations across the Europe and Central Asia region. The consultations provided an opportunity to hear directly about the specific risks and challenges that women and girls face as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic; they also focused on the opportunities and solutions they are providing so that the strategic focus of support can be adjusted in a gender-responsive manner to reflect their differentiated experience. Based on monitoring of print media in 2014, this publication gives a comprehensive overview on how Albania’s print media reports on human trafficking of women and girls, a serious concern there. It identifies key issues and offers journalists, media leaders, public institutions, the police and other actors a set of recommendations to improve reporting on trafficking of women and girls and more effectively fight trafficking.

Developed in consultation with the International Federation of Journalists and UNESCO’s many other global media partners, this publication presents Gender-Sensitive Indicators for Media (GSIM), global indicators that aim to voluntarily enrich freedom of expression and the independence of media by assisting media in issues relating to gender equality and women’s empowerment. The GSIM are available in several languages, including Albanian.
