Partnerships

UN Women envisions a world where societies are free of gender discrimination, and women and girls are empowered to lead the change they want to see. But we can’t make it happen alone. Working in partnership is essential to achieve these results. UN Women in Albania partners with the government, women’s groups and civil society, academia, the media, the private sector and the public at large, among others.

Since its establishment, UN Women has mainly been funded by international partners committed to making gender equality and women’s empowerment a global priority. UN Women in Albania receives most of its funding from the Government of Sweden and Switzerland through the Albania SDG Acceleration Fund, the Government of Italy, and the European Union. In partnership with these international partners, UN Women strives to achieve gender equality and promote women’s rights in Albania.

Gender equality and the empowerment of women is central to the country’s EU integration processes. Continuous progress on the achievement of SDG 5 is also key to the country’s sustainable development trajectory, as articulated in a series of national documents. UN Women supports the national partners with normative and policy advice to fulfill international and national obligations with respect to equality between women and men.
