Gender equality and the empowerment of women is central to the country’s EU integration processes. Continuous progress on the achievement of SDG 5 is also key to the country’s sustainable development trajectory, as articulated in a series of national documents. UN Women supports the national partners with normative and policy advice to fulfill international and national obligations with respect to equality between women and men. It also contributes to building capacities of national institutions at central and local levels to strengthen the implementation and monitoring of national strategies, policies and plans.
