UN Women and the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) have been collaborating for over 15 years to collect, analyze, and present gender-specific statistics, monitoring progress towards gender equality. To further strengthen this partnership, they recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU, signed by Michele Ribotta, UN Women Representative in Albania, and Elsa Dhuli, INSTAT Director, aims to enhance coordination, production, analysis, and dissemination of gender statistics in Albania.

Michele Ribotta emphasized the importance of complete gender data, saying, "By enhancing production and access to comprehensive gender data, Albania will be in a better position to measure the implementation of SDG 5 and identify ways of accelerating progress. This MoU consolidates and reaffirms a long lasting and fruitful partnership between the two organizations."

The MoU focuses on strengthening policies, practices, and knowledge to mainstream gender considerations in every phase of the statistical production process within the National Statistical System, thus promoting more effective planning, policy, and decision-making on gender equality and women's empowerment in Albania.

The collaboration will focus on four main pillars:

  • Enhancing the capacity of INSTAT staff.
  • Strengthening the production of timely and quality gender statistics and sex-disaggregated data for monitoring national policies and international commitments.
  • Improving access to gender statistics for those involved in advocacy, research, and data-driven policies and programs.
  • Enhancing gender data literacy for central and local government officials.
